TRAVEL MAGIC - JAPAN
Our relationship with Japan began through my husband’s childhood. Born to first-generation immigrants in New York City, he spent his summers in Kyoto with his cousins, who lived in and around their family’s unagi shop in the historic Nishiki Market.
In 2007, we were married in Kyoto at Heian Jingu, and we continue to return — exploring cities and gardens, onsens and art installations, as well as rural places where life is lived more quietly, away from the crowds.
Along the way, we’ve gathered a small collection of favorite places and experiences, which we share quietly and sparingly so they don’t lose what makes them feel alive and authentic.
You’ll find a few glimpses below — from “gangsta sushi” to moments of quiet beauty and awe — in the place we affectionately call the land of cute and yummy.
READY FOR A LITTLE MAGIC?
Need help shaping a Japan itinerary or looking for insider guidance to get the most out of your visit? We suggest booking a 1- or 2-hour consultation, in person or via Zoom.
These sessions are a chance to listen to what you’re hoping for, share what we know, and shape a travel plan that feels coherent, personal, and alive. If it’s helpful, we’re also happy to continue organizing and refining your trip beyond the initial meeting.
Occasionally, we’re available to meet in Japan for a shared excursion, if you’d like a guide for part of your visit.
When you book, you’re welcome to share a few details in the booking questions so I can come to our conversation prepared.
And if you don’t see a time or location that fits, feel free to reach out at erica@@mitamagic.com. I’m always happy to help you find something that works.
